Mechanisms of Heat Transfer in Permeable Insulation and Their Investigation in a Special Guarded Hot Plate
SourceThis paper presents the use of a specially designed guarded hot plate apparatus in analyzing and predicting the heat transfer behavior of a permeable insulating material. It is shown how the mechanisms of heat transfer in a fibrous material can be interpreted from simple physical models and measurements in the guarded hot plate. It is also shown that with the appropriate theoretical background and calculations, the natural convective heat transfer in a permeable material may be studied on a small scale and then used in the investigation of the heat transfer in full-scale structures.
