Apollo Quality Through Predictive Testing
SourceSuccessful operation of a machine by a man is contingent upon meeting the following condition: the capability of the machine must be compatible with the capability of the man in the environment which they will see together. How do we achieve this compatibility? Through testing of hardware and training of people in the best simulation of operational environment that is economically feasible. This paper discusses the testing performed during the Apollo program and its relationship to the Engineering, Qualification, Manufacturing, Maintenance and Training aspects of the program. Illustrative examples of Apollo experience are used to highlight the discussion.
