Predicting the Service Life of Neoprene Launch Tube Liner Pads for the Poseidon Missile

Molded neoprene liner pads used to support the Poseidon missile in the launch tube were found to stiffen with time. Increasing the postcure reduced the stiffening rate. By aging pads at several moderately elevated temperatures it is possible to predict the service life of pads with several different postcures. The results of such aging tests, including the predicted service lives, are presented in this paper.
