Measurement of Irritation
SourceIrritation is a local action on the skin or mucosal tissue. It can be induced by thermal, mechanical, chemical, or electrical stimulation. The stimulation evokes impulses from the receptor organ. The impulses may be conveyed over neural pathways to the brain where they are translated into perceptual sensations, that is, warmth, cold, itching, pain. Impulses also may be carried to muscles or glands which react to the stimulus.
