Corrosion of Steel in Brick Masonry
SourceUnder present design standards steel ties, anchors, fasteners, joint reinforcement, reinforcing bars, and structural steel lintels and shelf angles in exterior masonry walls corrode at a rate which gives them a life expectancy of 5 to 70 years. Implementation of recommendations for improved design standards could double their life expectancy. Seventy references are cited.
