There are many descriptions of Zircaloy creep that are intended to predict the behavior of fuel cladding, as discussed in Chapter 5. Developing a creep equation may be limited to selecting a data base and fitting an algebraic expression to the data, or development may consider detailed mechanisms and cover large ranges of the independent variables. However, the ability of the expression to predict creep rates accurately for conditions of interest must be determined. One must verify that the expression will perform its assigned task.
