Fracture Behavior of a Uranium or Tungsten Alloy Notched Component with Inertia Loading
SourceA failure of a prototype long rod penetrator is described, including the stress and fracture analyses, the materials and service simulation testing performed, and the fracture toughness and nondestructive inspection requirements that were implemented. Results of a subsequent study are described, which involve the producibility of the long rod penetrator, particularly in relation to the complex fracture toughness testing methods that are required for use with this component.
