Elementary Thermoelectric Concepts

A survey of the elementary thermoelectric properties was given in Chapter 1. It is necessary to describe these effects in greater detail and to demonstrate their thermodynamic relationships before attempting to explain them by means of modern solid-state theory. The Seebeck, Peltier, and Thomson effects are defined, explained, and related in terms of elementary thermodynamics. These findings are applied to describe the behavior of real pairs of thermocouple elements.
