Margins of Safety in the Assessment of Aquatic Hazards of Chemicals—Some Regulatory Viewpoints
SourceThis paper discusses the use of safety margins in aquatic hazard assessment from the point of view of a regulatory agency—specifically, the Office of Toxic Substances of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Principles of application of the safety margin concept are discussed, including the complexity of balancing the myriad, often conflicting, factors involved in determining general risk assessment procedures and also evaluations tailored for specific purposes.
