Measurement of Consistency of Pulpwood-Water Slurry Based on Neutron Slowing-Down and Diffusion
SourceAn analysis based on Fermi age approximation is used to explore the feasibility of using neutron migration phenomena to monitor the consistency, and possibly also the fiber density, in pulpwood-water slurries of the type processed in the pulp and paper industry. The results of preliminary experimental work are also presented. A significant experimental result is that the consistency of a 3 percent mixture of sulfite pulp in water may be monitored with a relative precision of ± 3 percent (or ±0.09 percentage points) in a sampling time of 1 s.
