Materials Recovery and Utilization
SourceSome raw materials are in scarce supply, and the cost of others have risen sharply. This has started the United States into a transition period, from being a “disposable” society into an era of widespread recovery, reclamation, and reuse of materials. The working of free market forces, rather than arbitrarily imposed incentive/disincentive plans, should determine how long the transition takes. It could be speeded, however, if several present disincentives to materials recovery and reuse were removed.
