Soil Capacity for Supporting Deep Foundation Members in Clay
SourceA review and evaluation of the commonly used (state-of-practice) methods for analysis of ultimate capacity, load-deflection behavior, and driveability for driven piles in clay is presented. The evaluation suggests that significant progress has been made in modeling those portions of the problem amenable to conventional methods for structural analysis, but that remarkably little progress has been made toward realistically modeling soil behavior. A general effective stress method (state-of-art) for estimation of ultimate pile capacity is also presented and evaluated. The evaluation suggests that the general effective stress method has promise but is still in the process of development.
