Interpretation of Groundwater Quality from Well Samples
SourceWater quality determinations made from monitoring wells may differ from actual in situ groundwater quality by virtue of construction, operation, and sampling of the well. Observations made on several groundwater studies and theoretical considerations are used to interpret the reasons for differences, and are illustrated by studies for a landfill project. These studies suggest considerable care is needed to interpret monitoring results—especially when they are compared with regulatory requirements.
