This paper deals with the use of supplemental coolant additives (SCAs) for the protection of heavy-duty diesel cooling systems. The unique needs of heavy-duty diesel are discussed as well as the special demands made upon the coolant by heavy-duty service. Developmental considerations for heavy-duty SCAs are given and new and modified test methods are proposed for their evaluation.
