Fracture Toughness of Fiber-Polymer Cement Concrete System
SourceFracture mechanics parameter and energy absorption capacity of fiber-polymer cement concrete are experimentally evaluated and then KIc, JIc, toughness index, modulus of toughness, impact toughness, and bending toughness are examined by means of an analysis of factorial experiments.
Five factors—namely, steel fiber geometry, volume fraction of fiber, unit polymer content, water-cement ratio, and relative notch depth—are assumed to affect these fracture mechanics parameters and toughness parameters.
Experimental scatter of the test method of these fracture parameters is discussed in order to determine the testing method of toughness property of the fiber-polymer cement concrete composite. The confidence interval and significant factors effect are also calculated. Finally, the usefulness and the limitation of fracture mechanics for the application of the cementitious concrete design are discussed.
