-Integral -Curve Testing of High Strength Steels Utilizing the Direct-Current Potential Drop Method
SourceJ-integral R-curve tests were performed on 1T compact specimens of 3Ni and 5Ni steels under both quasi-static and rapid loading. A direct-current potential drop technique was developed for the crack extension measurements. This technique accounted for specimen plasticity and correlated well with crack extension measurements determined from elastic compliance. Potential drop proved to be a valid technique for the determination of R-curves under rapid loading. Increasing the loading rate elevated the JI-R curves for both the 3Ni and 5Ni steels with respect to the quasi-static case.
