Lap Joint Strengths of Loose-Laid and Adhered Single-Ply Roof Systems

Source

A series of lap joint strength and elongation tests were run on plastomeric, elastomeric, and modified bitumen single-ply roof materials. Various lap lengths were used; the effects of high temperature 66°C (150°F) and low temperature −29°C (−20°F) were evaluated also. Loose-laid-membrane lap joints were tested as well as adhered-modified bitumen lap joints. The behavior of modified bitumen lap joints made by torching and hot asphalt were studied as well as their behavior over built-up roofing (BUR) specimens containing a roof split.
