Some Observations on the Dynamic Fracture Behavior of Carbon Fiber-strengthened Epoxy Resin
SourceThe dynamic fracture behavior of 0/90 carbon fiber-strengthened epoxy resin composites is described in terms of the dynamic fracture toughness parameters KId and GId as a function of temperature and strain rate. It is shown that the fracture toughness is dependent on the elastic characteristics of the fibers and is insensitive to strain rate and temperature. The crack propagation energy is controlled by the properties of the epoxy resin and fiber-matrix interface and is sensitive to changes in strain rate at elevated temperatures.
