New Method of Microscopic Inclusions Ratings for Specialty Steels in West Germany

For the determination of the microscopic degree of cleanliness, many charts and evaluation methods are in use internationally.

A summary of the best elements from the established methods used by the experts in West Germany is described. A procedure is given to the metallographer that sufficiently describes the microscopic degree of cleanliness as to shape, frequency, and size of the inclusions. The result is suitable for a statistic evaluation with modern computers.
