The contract tool, die, and precision machining industry faces unique problems in the area of metrication due to its role as a supplier industry.

Although little work to metric specifications is presently being done, and a significant level of awareness exists in the industry regarding the trend toward metrication, only a very small segment of the industry has any definite plans for handling the transition.
