Site Engineering Indexing of Rock
SourceAn “Engineering Index” has been developed, (Aufmuth, 1972) for use at field sites, by means of which the pertinent characteristics of the intact and in situ rock mass may be presented in a brief, clear, and relevant manner. The Engineering Index consists of two parts; a lithologic and an engineering description. The latter is determined accurately from field index tests which have been directly correlated to laboratory investigational procedures.
The Engineering Index allows for the rapid and economical determination of the engineering properties of rock materials under field conditions and facilitates the acquisition of design data and experience translation from site to site.
