Interpretation of Plate Loading Test Results
SourceMany varieties of the plate loading test have been developed to aid in the design of underground powerhouses, major tunnel projects, and foundation design of large concrete dams. Whereas all forms of the test dutifully generate data, generally the only results of these data are the modulus of deformation and, on occasion, some creep information. However, much significant information is ignored, such as: strength parameters, in situ stress levels, amounts of stress and blast damage, plus judgment factors on elastic-plastic response. Information on all these items is not available from every test, but some information occurs often enough to be of significant value and should be used together with the creep and modulus values.
