The Belgian Point of View on Testing Reaction to Fire of Building Materials

Methods standardized in some countries have not withstood critical comparative testing by an international body. After explaining what reaction to fire of a building material really means, the proposed test method is discussed. The necessary equipment as well as the test methodology are described. The necessity for introduction of a reaction to fire index, in which the majority of relevant material properties are included, is explained. Calculation of test data is defined and the reaction to fire indices of a series of materials are given. Reproducibility of the test method seems to be good.
