The use of fire resistive coatings in wood and steel construction is reviewed by the author, who visited the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) in July 1981, as a member of the US-USSR Panel on Fire Protection. Included are English translations of two Soviet standards (GOST) for Fire Protective Phosphate Coatings for Wood and for Steel.
