Formability of Aluminum Alloys Using Cup Tests
SourceCup height testing remains an important means of judging relative formability of aluminum alloys. This is true in both alloy development work and plant quality control. In this paper a comparison is given between Ball Punch Deformation Testing (Olsen cup) and a cupping test incorporating a 10.2-cm (4-in.)-diameter spherical punch. The merits and inadequacies of both tests in distinguishing differences in formability of aluminum alloys is discussed.
