Vienna Method of Shear Testing

For the internal friction of clays and argillaceous rocks, there are two groups with essentially different shear properties: (1) normal clay with an almost constant angle of internal friction, and (2) clay prone to slippage, in which the angle of internal friction can drop considerably by reorientation of the clay particles in a shear plane.
