General Report on Theories
SourceThe theories of shear strength occupy an important place in soil mechanics. They have to satisfy two main requirements: (1) the theories should describe the shear strength relationships of soils by means of fundamental strength parameters (analytical requirement); (2) these parameters should be directly applicable to strength and stability problems, such as earth pressures, stability of slopes, and bearing capacity of foundations (design requirement).
