Development of a Testing Procedure for a Guarded Hot Box Facility
SourceASTM Test for Thermal Conductance and Transmittance of Built-Up Sections by Means of the Guarded Hot Box (C 236) states that the net heat flow through the metering box walls should be minimized. In order to satisfy this requirement, a testing procedure was developed to experimentally define the required thermopile emf set point across the metering box walls of the W. R. Grace & Company guarded hot box (GHB). This method of “calibration” can be applied to any GHB. Thermal conductances of three specimens were measured using the results of the “calibration” procedure and were found to be within 3 percent of the values obtained by other independent test methods.
