The effect of such fiber characteristics as weight content, modulus, and density on the stiffness properties of a chopped fiber reinforced sheet molding compound (SMC) composite are analytically evaluated. Comparisons are made among SMC composites reinforced by four commercially available fiber systems, glass, Kevlar, carbon, and high-modulus carbon.
