Experience of the British Standards Institution in the Field of Engine Coolants
SourceThe development in the United Kingdom of specifications and standards for inhibited coolants for internal combustion engines is briefly reviewed. Three types of British Standards that are currently in existence are described. These are concerned respectively with compositional specifications, recommendations for the care and maintenance of cooling systems, and, more recently, performance specifications. The motivation for the preparation of these standards and their technical contents are reviewed and some indications of the direction of future work discussed.
