Hot Isostatic Pressed Powder Metal Titanium Implant Devices
SourceIn recent years, Crucible Compaction Metals Operation has performed a considerable amount of work in developing a ceramic mold process for the production of near-net shape hardware from powder metal with consolidation by hot isostatic pressing (HIP). A detailed description of the process is given herein. Examples of the many configurations made to date are presented along with the comparison of mechanical property data obtained on as-HIPed parts versus conventionally produced material.
Based on the information generated, the ceramic mold process appears to be a viable alternative process for producing titanium implant devices.
