A Different Approach to Measuring Pedestrian Friction: The CEBTP Skidmeter

Source

The test method described in this article has contributed to a better understanding of the variables involved in the evaluation of pedestrian friction.

The objectives in the development of the portable pedestrian skidmeter were an improvement in test repeatability by increasing the length of the friction measurement; the elimination of operator influence on the results; the recording of the tangential force to enable a more objective test interpretation; the possibility of apparatus calibration before each series of tests; and the evaluation of two friction modes with either flat or inclined blocks representing sole or heel.
