In recent years, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has uncovered a generic problem of gross inadequacies in safety-related equipment environmental qualifications conducted by the nuclear industry. This paper describes the NRC’s response to the problem through the development of an accreditation system for laboratories conducting such environmental qualifications.
