Some of the techniques for studying the corrosion behavior of buried structures in the laboratory and in the field are described with illustrations, and methods of mitigation are described and discussed. The author draws upon experience with underground corrosion of steel, lead, and copper, and discriminates between profitable and unprofitable procedures.
