Inspection is the act of measuring, or evaluating with human senses, a product design characteristic or a related process control parameter, and comparing the results of the measurement or sensory evaluation with the corresponding requirements and quality standards, excluding functional or operational requirements, for the purpose of enabling a decision as to the product characteristic's acceptability or nonacceptability by someone having the authority to make such a decision in an official capacity.
