In the previous chapter, various requirements type documents used throughout the product life cycle were identified. Among these documents are requests for proposals, proposals, study reports, codes, standards, specifications, inspection plans, purchase orders, maintenance manuals, and even procedures or management directives, to mention only a few. Requirements type documents permeate the industrial scene and, as such, represent one of the most important vertebra in the backbone of quality. For this reason, the characteristics of a good requirements type document must be understood and supported. Without a good requirements type document, there cannot be good product quality.
