The Development of ASTM Standards on Child-Resistant Packaging
SourceThe provisions of the Poison Prevention Packaging Act of 1970 and the related protocol testing procedures provided the packaging industry with a need for industry-wide physical standards to provide a means for assuring that production of individual special packaging components continues to comply with the requirements of these regulations. Members of the packaging industry came together under ASTM and developed standards for child-resistant snap caps and closures requiring two simultaneous dissimilar motions. Standards for aerosol child-resistant closures are also being developed.
