This paper presents a discussion of urethane sealants in three parts: commercial applications, chemistry, and specifications. In the first part, urethane sealants for use on concrete structures, glass and glazing, curtain walls, split slabs, highways, and in vehicles are discussed. The price and performance of urethanes are compared to other sealants.

The chemistry section shows how commercially desirable properties are produced by the use of various chemical functional groups.

The specification section relates test methods to commercial properties and chemical groupings.
