Acrylic Sealants

Source

The uses and advantages of acrylic polymers for solvent or water based sealant applications are reviewed. Emphasis is placed on recent advances in the development of acrylic polymers for solvent based sealants having significantly improved elastomeric properties. The cost/performance benefits obtained with these new elastomeric acrylic sealants merits considering them as replacement for the more expensive types (for example, one component polysulfide). The history of the development of acrylic latexes for aqueous caulks is presented with emphasis on improvements in polymer design. The latest development of an internally plasticized acrylic latex which eliminates the need for external plasticizers in latex caulk is reviewed.
