The paper presents a review of recent user requirements for ferroalloys, and of our understanding of their metallurgical properties. Particular attention is given to alloy density, solution processes, and thermal effects. Alloy addition processes are reviewed, with major emphasis on ladle injection technology. Future developments are analyzed in light of recent and current trends.
