Analysis of Tosco II Oil Shale Retort Water

A sampling and analysis program for Tosco II oil shale retort water was conducted at the Tosco Corporation's 21 773-kg (24-ton)-per-day pilot plant near Golden, Colorado. The sampling and sample storage procedures are presented along with the analyses for common ions and trace metals. The substantial amounts of organic material present were separated by pH extraction and characterized as organic acids, organic bases, neutral oils, and phenolic material.
