Towards Development of a Standard Test for Measuring
SourceMeasurement of KIa requires the production of a run-arrest segment of crack extension in a laboratory specimen and evaluation of the stress intensity factor a short time after the crack has arrested. The crack should propagate under conditions which simulate propagation in a thick section. Progress towards meeting these requirements with tests on tapered-double-cantilever-beam specimens is described. Aspects which require further clarification are discussed.
