Field Instrumentation of Concrete Structures
SourceThree high-rise concrete buildings and two post-tensioned concrete bridges were instrumented to determine strains and deflections caused by instantaneous shortening, creep, and shrinkage. The actual properties of concretes were determined from laboratory measurements of strength, modulus of elasticity, coefficient of thermal expansion, creep, and shrinkage. Calculated values of time-dependent deformations based on laboratory data showed satisfactory comparison with measured values. Therefore, time-dependent behavior of concrete structures under service loads can be predicted with reasonable accuracy.
