Dispersive Soils at Sugarloaf Dam Site, Near Melbourne, Australia
SourceSite investigations for the Sugarloaf Dam near Melbourne, Australia, revealed the presence of dispersive soils in the residual soils, slope wash, and weathered siltstone at the site. The presence of these soils necessitated careful selection and zoning of dam construction materials and special measures in the design of the dam's cutoff. Possible turbidity problems in the stored water may require treatment of the reservoir bed before impounding as well as of the incoming water.
