Effects of Thermal Conductivity and Index of Refraction Variation on the Inclusion Dominated Model of Laser-Induced Damage
SourceThe inclusion-dominated model of laser-induced damage is reexamined in light of recent measurements of thin film thermal conductivities. In particular, the effects of varying the thermal conductivity and imaginary part of the index of refraction are explored. Two different values of the index of refraction are shown to be associated with a given damage threshold, and physical mechanisms are proposed for each value. Thermal conductivity is demonstrated to affect only weakly the value of the imaginary part of the index of refraction corresponding to a particular damage threshold.
