Stone Veneer-Faced Precast Concrete Panels
SourceIn the 1960s, the use of stone veneer-faced precast concrete panels became prevalent. As stone veneer becomes thinner, greater emphasis on stone physical properties becomes important as well as examination of factors of safety. A survey of precast concrete panel producers revealed excellent performance of thin stone veneers over the last 20 years.
The precast concrete industry recommends that there be no concrete bonding between stone veneer and concrete backup in order to eliminate bowing, cracking, and staining of the veneer. Mechanical anchors should be used to secure the veneer.
