Progress in the Development of a Generic Data Base for Mixer/Loader-Applicator Exposures
SourceIn recent years, occupational exposure to pesticides by users of these materials has received increasing emphasis from manufacturers, users, and regulatory agencies. To quantitate exposures, either a field study is performed, or data from a study of a similar product are used as a surrogate on a “worst-case” basis. In 1984, a new concept for estimation of occupational exposure to pesticides was presented at the 187th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in St. Louis. This proposal called for the creation of a database including all the available mixer/loader-applicator data, submitted in generic form without identifying the product or producer. The data would be compiled according to formulation and application technique, and made available to the public. Since 1984, a joint task force of the National Agricultural Chemicals Association, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and Health and Welfare Canada has worked to create the database, which is now accepting data for compilation. This paper reports progress to date on the database.
