Pesticide Applicator Exposure Monitoring: EPA Guidelines

The Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Pesticide Programs has published final guidelines for monitoring occupational pesticide exposure. This paper describes various aspects of these guidelines. The advantages and disadvantages of quantifying exposure both by passive dosimetry and biological monitoring are discussed. Requirements for monitoring dermal exposure when protective clothing is worn are described. When field exposure monitoring studies must be carried out and the number of individuals that must be monitored in each study are also specified.
