The Role of ASTM in Fire Modeling

In 1985, a new Subcommittee of Committee on E-5 on Fire Standards was formed to formulate ASTM's role in fire modeling and to provide the forum for managing appropriate actions related to fire modeling. The background for this decision and the areas of principal interest for Committee E-5 members are reviewed. The Subcommittee's scope and its principal tasks are defined in support of the expressed needs for guidance on use and limitations, data, validation, and documentation.
