ASTM E 728 (also known as the ASTM Steel Ball Test) is the standard method for determining resistance to attrition of granular materials. To find out how the test compares to in-field use, inert clay granules were tested using ASTM E 728 plus three different granular applicators. The ASTM E 728 test produced a lower percent resistance to attrition than any of the three applicator models tested. There was little difference in attrition of the clay granules through any of the three different applicator models.
